DRUMMING WORKSHOPS

Beat as One: A Family Drumming Workshop

Connect, Create, and Celebrate African Tradition

Experience the “spiritual force” of the drum and find your family’s rhythm.

Designed for children aged 6+ and their parents, this workshop is a rare invitation to step into a warm, welcoming environment and explore the vibrant world of rhythm. “Beat as One” is more than a music lesson; it is an immersive journey into the heart of West African culture through the art of the djembe and body percussion.

 The Power of the Djembe

The djembe is often referred to as the “healing drum.” Its name originates from the Bamana people in Mali, who say “Anke djé, anke bé,” which translates to “everyone gather together in peace.” For centuries, this instrument has served as a powerful tool for communication, storytelling, and community building.

To Ablaye, the djembe is a “spiritual force.” He believes the drum teaches us the essential values of love, respect, and humility. Through this workshop, Ablaye shares these deep cultural roots, inviting every participant to find their own unique rhythm within the collective beat.

 What the Workshop Includes:

  • A Welcome Mini-Concert:Experience the sounds of traditional instruments in an intimate performance by Ablaye.
  • Instrument Discovery:Get to know the instruments that define West African musical heritage.
  • Rhythm & Play:Engage in interactive games to guess and explore rhythms based on live notes.
  • Storytelling & Song:Immerse yourselves in the highlights of the program, featuring traditional stories, singing, and body drumming.
  • The Drumming Circle:Conclude the experience by joining a powerful collective sequence on the djembe drums.
